I did it...I finished the first draft of my second novel!
There is lots of re-writing and editing to come, but for now, I'm celebrating finishing it and taking a step back. Here's a small passage for the time being.
*

Olivia closed her eyes and inhaled deeply. The cool, salty air lifted the tips of her dark hair and tickled her cheeks. She breathed in the scent of ocean and forest: sweet, damp leaves mixed with the briny scent of water. The breeze caressed her spine and the morning sun warmed her eyelids.
She exhaled slowly.
A hand clasped firmly around her upper arm.
Her eyes flew open, her heart skipping.
She turned to Kit in surprise. He was looking down at her, coffee-coloured eyes concerned beneath knitted eyebrows.
He let go of her arm abruptly.
“You were moving towards the water,” he said.
Olivia looked in front of her. The cliff was just a couple feet away. She took a few steps back.
“Sorry,” she said. “I didn’t mean to.”
